Introductions

What's a story? Something to divert one's mind, engage the brain, impart wisdom, distract from difficulty? All of the above? From a young age I have been fascinated with literature and books of all kinds. Books always seemed to me to be treasure chests, waiting for me to open them and find what gems lay within. Learning new words was always an epiphany, both in discovering the meaning and the history behind them. Words have meaning and are powerful little things; words have the ability to soothe a tiny child to sleep and stir the hearts of soldiers to battle. Such aspects enthralled me through childhood and continue to fascinate me as an adult.

This blog is a resting spot for thoughts, musings, and explorations with words, drawing mental pictures with phrases and poetic meter. My hope is for the reader to sense an appreciation for their significance as have I.

The Deep

Glist’ning sunlight dances gay O’er the rolling azure waves As they lap against the shore, Calling trav’lers to explore; What within their depths do lie, Hidden deep from searching eyes, ‘Neath the weight of torrents vast Holding myst’ries ever fast? What great ships, now ruined, rest Upon the sandy floor, with chests Of golden treasure, precious gems, And crewmen that were lost with them? What caverns, great, and dark, and deep, Wind beneath, where Kraken sleeps, And ancient dragons, steely clad, Would thence come forth, and drive men mad? Such things a sailor would not know, As on the glitt’ring tide he rows, And marks his way by sun and star To reach a land beyond him far.

Liberty

“Our lives, our wealth, our honor dear” Rings out o’er silent crowd, as clear As clarion call through Time’s vast halls And echoing long in minds of all Whose liberty now seek to claim As gift of God, though tyrants reign. As words of independence waft And hover in the air aloft, The people, long ‘neath royal heel Who suffer from King George’s seal, Raise a cry across the land,  That all who hear might with them stand. For kings and royal houses old Must never strain their bound’ries so, Lest, as they overstep their rule They look increasingly the fool; For not long can tyranny’s sway Hold laws of nature’s God at bay.
