Solitude

I seek a sound cast through the night

More than wind’s howl, ‘neath pale starlight.

I wait long hours with pensive gaze;

For one arrives with whom my days

I’d gladly spend my lifetime through.

Haste now! The future waits for you!

What now could cast me far from you?

Could scores of men their boldness prove?

I bless the winds that brought to me

A hope of what our lives could be,

Of dreams left cold in time’s long past,

And now awaken soft at last.

The night grows long as I await

Your coming here; with breath abate

I ponder deep within my heart

What I would be with you apart.

Such things cast shade upon my thoughts.

You give me strength, as goodness ought.
