Hark! A Sound of Distant Tread

Hark! a sound of distant tread

Of armies marching toward the red

Of fateful dawn, which silent cries

That noblest blood was spilled this night.

Behold, the legions great and vast,

Soldiers valiant to the last;

Great have been their losses, yet

They set their faces firm ‘gainst death.

Many gallant knights shall fall

Overthrowing evil’s thrall;

Ancient lines and mem’ries old

Pass to death with youngest souls.

Yet evil shall not set its sway

Upon the soldiers of the Day,

Nor tarnish sacred memory

Of gallant heroes’ bravery.
